Departmental Overview
The statistical programmer’s responsibility will be to contribute to the design, development, and testing of an open source  program that implements targeted maximum likelihood estimation (TMLE), a causal inference procedure developed by  a Professor of Statistics and Biostatistics at [A university in Calif.].   The program will run in the R statistical programming environment, though some functions will be implemented in C to improve performance.  TMLE is a general estimation framework that is instantiated differently depending on options specified
at run-time.  The program design should reflect the abstract nature of the task as closely as possible, in order to be easily extensible as new options and features are required over time.  The implementation should be platform-independent.

This is a telecommute position (laptop and server access provided, no office space), with weekly on-campus meetings. Hours are flexible.
Responsibilities
60% –Designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates basic programs for functional areas by applying professional application programming
concepts.

15%–Under general supervision, analyzes existing programs or works to formulate logic for moderately complex new systems, devises logic procedures, prepares flowcharting, performs coding, data analysis, and tests/debugs programs.

5%–Executes test plan.

5%–Develops conversion and system implementation plans.

10%–Gathers and analyzes data to prepare system and programming documentation.

5%–Assists with implementation of changes in development, maintenance and system standards.

Required Qualifications

* Excellent programming skills in C, and any OOP language
* Familiar with R (or S-Plus)
* Knowledge of  Unix, Linux, Mac OS 10, Windows XP, Vista
* Willing to learn, take direction
* Eager to problem solve in a collaborative research environment
* Must be self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
* Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or a year or two experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Working toward or have earned a Master’s Degree in related area.
Salary & Benefits
Monthly Salary: $3850 – $5400
