Monitors the operation of the networks and systems to ensure proper functioning of lines, hardware and software. Identifies and resolves complex network problems utilizing structured troubleshooting methods, techniques and tools. Participates with vendors and common carriers during problem analysis/resolution as required. Monitors and tunes networks and systems performance. Prepares and maintains technical specifications and documents, drawings, system documentation and operating manuals. Participates in the evaluation of vendor proposals and the benefits of changes in hardware, communications protocols, switching methods, access methods and tariffs, and in the procurement of software and equipment. Recommends equipment purchase or lease. Establishes capacity performance monitoring. Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

Working knowledge for both Microsoft Operating systems and Apple Mac OS

Working knowledge for basic personal computing security settings such as patching and local firewalls

Working knowledge of Juniper Networks  ASA SSL VPN Gateways a plus,

Visio Professional

Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)

TCP/IP, SNMP, CDP, IPSec, SSL

Cisco certification a plus, but not required

Bilingual – Fluent with English and Japanese (preferably Level 1 language proficiency certification)

Knowledge of Japanese culture and business practices

Excellent verbal, written, and project management skills

Ability to manage large enterprise wide network projects within the group.

Support will include planning teleconference calls w/ our clients and customers while testing, implementing, or performing troubleshooting support of our  Remote access network both in the USA and Japan.

Engineer expected to use Remedy change management system for tracking of every change made to a network device.

Ability to work overtime as required

Travel to Japan may or may not be required (expenses will be covered)

Rotating “On Call” pager support schedule to assist Network Operations with Tier 3 troubleshooting.

Flexible work schedule and telecommuting options available based out of Newark NJ.

A high speed home internet connection is required for off hour support and telecommuting.
