I have a small design and technology firm [Company] that interacts with clients who come to us for premium quality work. We are not the least expensive option and we sell a strong return on investment to the handful of clients we want to work with. Often our clients come to us with the idea that they need some sort of redesign, we help them both on the design and technology side to establish how we can help them accomplish their business goals and often find ourselves providing business consulting in order to make the end product give them the best return.

I’m looking for a senior front end developer who has their own business or is a freelancer to collaborate with long term and on a few currently pressing projects. Your skill set is important to me, but your character is even more important. I’m looking for someone who is creative with technology and is able to respectfully help our clients understand the best way for them to use it. We end up teaching our clients a lot and they in turn end up trusting us, building a relationship with us, give us a large amount control over our projects with them, and stay clients and friends for a long time. You need to be able to listen carefully to the areas where our clients have expertise (their business, their products). I’m looking for someone who can admit mistakes, speak frankly with clients, truly has our clients’ best interest in mind, is enthusiastic about the work they do, embraces the clients that show they trust our judgement and be okay with letting go of those clients who are convinced that they are somehow the experts in technology and that we should just be pushing the buttons they tell us to. We try our hardest to filter those clients out.

As far as technology goes, you should be highly skilled and a senior developer. You should be design oriented in how you develop, meaning, it’s critical that the designs I hand over look as close once developed as they did in the PSDs (I’ve been doing this for a while and I understand that there are some exceptions, but I also want you to be creative in coming up with solutions). You should be able to work with layered Photoshop Documents as well as occasionally illustrator files. Your code should be clean and you should be SEO oriented in how you structure your code. You should be VERY comfortable building a CMS for our clients and understand the need to have a robust CMS that is easy to use from the client end. We can talk later on about limiting controls we give clients to maintain both design and development integrity of their site, but having a good CMS is simply a staple at this point.

You don’t have a full time job during the day that would keep you from doing work
You are NOT an off shore company (although I know writing this will not stop me from getting dozens of emails that are)
You are a senior dev
You posses some awesomeness
We need to get along really well
You like good film, good BBQ, watch Top Gear regularly and use a mac as your primary machine (okay, those aren’t requirements, but it’s worth a shot)
